I grew up in a small village in Val Gardena, in the Dolomites, in the apartment above my family’s shop. Wooden figures, antiques and curious little things were part of everyday life. My mother taught me early on that old objects often tell the best stories, if you take the time to look.

After studying art in Milan and working as a curator in contemporary art, I found something extraordinary back home: countless dusty boxes that had been closed for almost sixty years. Inside were small wooden objects, carved and painted by hand, wrapped with such care that many looked as though they had been made yesterday.

These pieces come from a valley where woodcarving was a way of life for centuries. Many were made in family homes, where carving, painting and woodturning were passed down through generations. Finding them has made me feel closer to the place I grew up in, and to the people whose hands shaped it.

I’m still unpacking, sorting and documenting. Nearly every box holds a surprise, and sharing those discoveries is one of my favourite parts of haus und gretel.

The objects find their way here slowly, one selection at a time. Some come in small batches; others are one of a kind.

In time, I’d love to bring you other special vintage finds from South Tyrol, alongside collaborations with artists and craftspeople.

For now, I hope you find something here that makes you smile. Something to live with, to give to someone you love, or to treasure for years to come. And I hope these little wooden wonders awaken a little curiosity about our valley—and a sense of pride in those of us who call it home.
